Margaret Cho’s stand-up comedy, Beautiful, was released on November 17, 2009 by the Image Entertainment Studio. The 75 minutes stand-up performance is directed by Lorene Machado and was filmed live at the Long Beach Terrace Theater.
A good portion of this comedy show is dedicated to the legalization of gay marriage. With great satirists, the American-Asian stand-up comedian spends much of her comedy show focusing on stereotypes and making fun of them. The bisexual comedian has a great ability to tell a joke with proper timing covering subjects such as: American daily life, politics and feminism.
The stand-up comedian’s concert show, Beautiful, explores the good, bad, and downright ugly in beauty, and the unattractive politicians and marketers who shape our world. This stand-up comedy was taped just weeks before the 2008 election and there was plenty of election talk during this comedy routine. The stand-up comedian claims in her stand-up comedy special that she was fired from the Obama campaign for her jokes about McCain and Palin.
The stand-up comedian's humor is based on seeing the world from a skewed angle, letting her point out truths that most of us miss. And she doesn't let us down: every sketch is up to her standards. Every line will either make you laugh or offend you, and for the same reason, because she's telling the truth. From a personal point of view, the main message of this stand-up comedy is the fact that the eye of the beholder doesn't hold all the power when it comes to beauty. The stand-up comedian managed to perform an excellent stand-up routine with her refreshing comedy style.
If you’re a normal, open-minded human being and you don't mind vulgarity and jokes on religions, you’ll find this stand-up comedy very entertaining. If you’re a close minded conservative who’s uncomfortable with X-rated humor involving numerous “controversial” topics such as homosexuality then you’ll probably be turned off. I challenge you to watch her comedy special. You might just learn something.
I highly recommend purchasing this DVD, not for your kids or for your grandparents, but for you and your friends. You will have a good laugh, believe me!
