Comedy Roast of David Hasselhoff

The August 15, 2010 edition of Comedy Central's annual roast had as guest famous actor David Hasselhoff. The Comedy Central Roast of David Hasselhoff, former star of Knight Rider and Baywatch, had jokes that everyone expected one way or another. The stars that dropped insults on Hasselhoff touched subjects like: Hasselhoff is talentless, his career is a joke and he's an alcoholic as evidenced by the now-legendary viral video of "The Hoff" attempting to eat a cheeseburger while very, very drunk.

Comedy Roast of David Hasselhoff had as roastmaster none other than Seth Macfarlane. The other roasters were roast regulars Greg Giraldo, Jeffrey Ross, Lisa Lampanelli, Gilbert Gottfried and up-and-coming roast star Whitney Cummings. Beyond that, though, it was a whole collection of celebrities like George Hamilton, Jerry Springer, Hulk Hogan and Pamela Anderson that rounded out the guest list, and proved to be as easy of targets as The Hoff.

As expected, no one on the dais disappointed; one after another, everyone hit the same targets with varying degrees of success. The only moments that worked on the Hasselhoff roast were the ones that actually surprised.

In Comedy Central Roast of David Hasselhoff weren’t enough actual comedians on the dais. Because they're all larger-than-life "types" and barely real people, it was always the obvious characteristics that provided joke fodder: Jerry Springer is a sleaze, Hulk Hogan is ripped and bald, George Hamilton is tan and Pamela Anderson is Pamela Anderson. In spite of this, there were some really bright spots. Everyone had at least a couple of good jokes, and the sets from Cummings and Giraldo had some incredible high points. Not surprisingly, they were the two who were left the darkest and edgiest by the Comedy Central editors, who reportedly stripped most of the teeth from the show.

Roastmaster Seth Macfarlane has a couple of good lines and Hasselhoff appeared to have a good sense of humor, overall. Though whether or not he was even fully aware of what was going on around him, if he was being laughed at or with him, David Hasselhoff used the evening as an excuse to do two musical numbers.

In Comedy Central Roast of David Hasselhoff, actors’ rebuttal had a couple of good lines, and much time was devoted to an exchange with Kitt, the Knight Rider car. The roast looked and felt like an event, with enough potential to become memorable.
