WWE champion Mick Foley begins UK stand up tour

The former WWE champion recently inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, Mick Foley is also a bestselling author and now a stand-up comedian, embarking on his debut UK tour.

His one-man show includes any kind of jokes and punchlines. Most important, no heckler dares to insult a 6ft 2in, 20 stone hulk and wrestling champion so his shows will be clean and you will laugh (even if you don’t want to).

“To me, it was an extension,” he says. “It’s a little frustrating that people don’t see that immediately. A lot of people who have read the first part of my memoirs laughed out loud throughout and then wondered why I was making the move into comedy. I am very happy revolving my show around wrestling stories.”

After almost 30 years in the ring, Mick’s materials are based on his share of knocks, including having a tooth come through his nose and losing two-thirds of an ear during a contest in Germany.

“It is tough,” he admits. “There’s a pretty big price to pay for being a superhero for a while.” Mick is well aware who his audience is: “It’s wrestling fans and people who love them enough to go to a show with them.

“You don’t have to be a wrestling fan to enjoy it, as my stories don’t alienate anyone. Certainly, non-wrestling fans would go out of their way to tell me how much they enjoyed the show.”

Mick Foley: Tales From Wrestling Past comes to Birmingham Town Hall tonight, Telford Oakengates Theatre tomorrow and Warwick Arts Centre on Monday.
