The Edinburgh Fringe Festival Is Mostly X-Rated!

This year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival recorded an increase of x-rated shows, comparing to 2010. Last year, the Edinburgh Fringe introduced the over-18 ratings and 241 shows announced they fit this rating. The Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2011 has an increase of over fifty percent shows x-rated. The exact number is 505 shows which are not recommended to under 18 viewers, and the warnings include: nudity, adult themes, and strong language.

This explosion of x-rated shows is not just in one area of the festival. They go from the theatre section to the Comic Strip, a major new production in the Assembly line-up mixing stand-up comedy and striptease. When the performers subscribe their act to the festival, they have to rate them as it follows: U (Universal), PG (Parental Guidance), 12+, 14+, 16+ and 18+.

Most performers rate their shows 18+ to avoid complaints, others may do this to attract more people because it seems that the audience is excited about this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival and they aren’t at all disturbed by the big number of x-rated shows.
