Stand Up Comedy Contest with a Live Show as a Prize

The cafe chain Costa Coffee has launched a stand up comedy competition with no cash prize. The competition is for new-comers in stand up comedy and the ultimate prize are two gigs at the Comedy Store, with no chance of being “gonged off.”

The Costa Light Comedy Challenge requires contestants to submit decent minute-long videos of original material until October 23. There will be ten top videos selected by the public to go into the next phase of the competition, when the host Paul Tonkinson and a live audience will select two finalists. On November, the two finalists will compete for the much promised ten-minute Friday night set of stand up comedy at both the London and Manchester venues.

To be no misunderstandings, the rules say: ‘Each contestant agrees to grant Costa a worldwide royalty free irrevocable perpetual license to use the video clip that it submits for the competition... for the purpose of promoting the competition and reporting on the same.’
