Robin Williams - Funnier on Drugs?

You all know Robin Williams, American actor and comedian who became famous with his role as the alien Mork in the TV series Mork and Mindy, and later stand up comedy work, performing in many feature films since 1980.

Robin Williams has done a number of stand up comedy tours since the early 1970s.

Some of his most notable tours include An Evening With Robin Williams in 1982, Robin Williams: At The Met in 1986 and Robin Williams LIVE on Broadway in 2002, breaking many long-held records for a comedy show, tickets being sold out within thirty minutes of going on sale.

After a six-year break, in August 2008 Williams stars with "Weapons of Self Destruction" a tour that started at the end of September 2009, finishing in New York on December 3.

Williams won two Emmy Awards, four Golden Globes, two Screen Actors Guild Awards and five Grammy Awards.

In 2006, Williams admitted that he has battled substance abuse before and he started seeking treatment. During his swift rise to fame on the 1978-1982 sitcom Mork and Mindy, Williams became addicted to alcohol and cocaine.

"Cocaine for me, was a place to hide. Most people get hyper on coke. It slowed me down. Sometimes it made me paranoid and impotent, but mostly it just made me withdrawn. And I was so crazy back then working all day, partying most of the night, I needed an excuse not to talk. I needed quiet times and I used coke to get them."

Two events made him quit and seek treatment.First his pal John Belushi died from a drug overdose just a few hours after Williams snorted a line of coke with him at a hotel and the second event, his first wife, Valerie, became pregnant.

"The Belushi tragedy was frightening, his death scared a whole group of show business people and for me there was the baby coming. I knew I couldn't be a father and live that sort of life" said Williams.

Many fans and critics, judged Robin Williams abuse for alcohol and drugs. Some of them even said that his humor and jokes came out thanks to the drugs effects and that he was funnier when he was cooked out!

What do you say about that? Do you think that Robin Williams can't tell jokes without taking coke?
