Comedy Central levels-up with #Comedyfest to be held on Twitter

Comedy Central takes the funny business to another level: social media. The network is going to launch a Twitter comedy festival next week. How this works: Comics like Mel Brooks, Carl Reiner, Amy Shumer, Paul Feig and Judd Apatow will lead ”#Comedyfest” with tweeted jokes, clips, routines and roundtables shared on new video platform Vine.

The online festival kicks off on April, 29th featuring Brooks, Reiner and hosted by Apatow. They will try to convince the anti-social media comedian, Brooks to join Twitter. The “show” will be live streamed from Paley Center. Tuesday we will have Steve Agee hosting “Vine Dining” party in six-second videos.

This might be a good solid marketing strategy but if it's not, at least we can say it's clever. Comedy Central will also release “CC:Stand-Up” – a free app supported by ads to offer stand-up routines; somewhat similar to music streaming apps that allow users to find new comedians based on what they’ve been watching

"We spend a lot of time talking to networks and show runners about this, 'What do you put onto Twitter that will get people to change the channel or alert them to another way of enjoying the show?'" Fred Graver, head of TV at Twitter, said. "It's the same way we'd market our comedy through a billboard a few years ago."

The Comedyfest will be on Twitter until May, 3rd.
