A New Comedy Club Opens in Washington!

This weekend marks the opening of a new stand up comedy venue called Riot Act Comedy Theater in Washington. Situated at 8th and E in the Gallery Place neighborhood, The Riot Act joins the well-known D.C. Improv as a go-to place for live stand-up.

The co-owner of the venue, John Xereas, thinks that Riot Act can be a venue for not only comedy, but other events such as film festivals. The venue offers 13,000 square feet with two bars, food service and seating for upwards of 350 people.

Stand up comedian Charles Fleischer is going to headline for the grand opening both August 12 and 13, and the show starts at 10:30 p.m. The first few weeks of the theater's opening features local comedians, or those with local ties such as Rob Cantrell, as well as a comedy school. Xereas hopes that the Riot Act will be the place where new great comedians will be born.
