On June 16, 1993, stand up comedian Bill Hicks was diagnosed with leaver cancer, extended from his pancreas. Shortly after that, he started chemotherapy sessions on a weekly basis, but he still continued with his work and his life. The stand up comedian did not stop touring with stand up comedy shows and he continued recording his album, Arizona Bay, with Kevin Booth.

The audience did not now about Bill Hicks’ cancer, only a few friends and the stand up comedian’s family were aware of his condition. The disease didn’t break his spirit and he was always joking that every performance could be his last. The last stand up comedy show Bill Hicks performed was at Caroline's in New York on January 6, 1994. He then returned home to his parents and let them know all about his interests.

The legendary stand up comedian Bill Hicks died of side effects of his cancer treatment in the presence of his parents at 11:20 p.m. on February 26, 1994. He was only 32 years old. Hicks’ remains are buried in the family plot in Leakesville, Mississippi.

Before he died, on February 7, 1994, Bill Hicks left his “last word” to be released after his death: “I left in love, in laughter, and in truth and wherever truth, love and laughter abide, I am there in spirit.”
