At some point on his early stand up comedy career, Bill Bailey almost gave up comedy to take a telesales job, after a failed show on BBC Radio 1, the Mark Radcliffe show.

Billy worked as a delivery boy and when he was 16 changed his job and worked as a boilermaker at Alexander Stephen and Sons Shipyard in Linthouse.

Shortly after that, he started chemotherapy sessions on a weekly basis, but he still continued with his work and his life.
