Roseanne Barr is one of the American’s funniest stand-up comedian actress, writer, television producer and director and for sure is one of the most controversial of any American actress.

Personal Life

Barr’s biography has a side that not many people have seen. Born Roseanne Cherrie Barr, in 3rd of November 1952, in Salt Lake City, the stand-up comedian was the oldest of four children in a working-class Jewish family. The comedian’s parents kept their Jewish heritage secret from their neighbors and were partially involved in The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints (Mormons). During her teenage years, the stand-up comedian worked as a dishwasher and waitress at Bennigan’s Restaurant. Her funny comments to the customers she waited on, led her to doing standup comedy at the restaurant.

The stand-up comedian attended Salt Lake High School East, but dropped out before graduating at the age of 17. After a car accident, the comedian was admitted to a mental institution, claiming she was having nightmares and memory loss. She left the institute less than a year later. Soon after, the comedian gave birth to her first daughter, Brandi Brown, and gave her up for adoption.

In 1970 at age 18, the stand-up comedian Barr left home by telling her parents she was going to visit a friend in Colorado for two weeks, but never returned. Later on, the comedian claims that she, as well as her siblings, had been physically and sexually abused as a child. Both her siblings and parents denied the charges.

The stand-up comedian married Bill Pentland in 1974 and they had three children together before divorcing in 1990(Jessica, Jennifer, and Jake). Four days after the divorce, Barr married comedian Tom Arnold for four years. On Valentine's Day 1995, Roseanne married former bodyguard Ben Thomas with whom she had another son, Buck thanks to in-vitro fertilization procedure. Their marriage lasted 7 years, until 2002.

The stand-up comedian Roseanne Barr had a breast reduction surgery in 1991(from 40DD to 38C) and a gastric bypass surgery in 1998. She began dating Johnny Argent in 2003.They curently live on a 46-acre macadamia nut farm located on the Big Island of Hawaii. The comedian purchased the property in 2007 for $1.78 million.


Barr started her career in stand-up comedy in Denver and other Colorado clubs. On 23 August 1985 she made her national TV debut on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson”. This marked the turning point in her career, and the comedian was deluged with job offers thereafter. In 1986, the stand-up comedian performed on Late Night with David Letterman.

The stand-up comedian gained fame for her role in the sitcom Roseanne Barr Show. The show was a hit and lasted nine seasons, from 1988 to 1997. The comedian won an Emmy, a Golden Globe, a Kids Choice Award, and many American Comedy Awards for her part in the show and for being the funniest female comedy performer in a television special. For the final two seasons, the comedian earned $40 million, which made her at the time, the second-highest-paid woman in show business, after Oprah Winfrey.In this routine she popularized the phrase, "domestic goddess," to refer to a homemaker or housewife. After her sitcom ended, the stand-up comedian appeared in other television shows and movies and performed voice work and theater before launching her own talk show, The Roseanne Show, which aired from 1998 to 2000.

The stand-up comedian Roseanne Barr released her autobiography in 1989, titled Roseanne-My Life as a Woman. That same year, the comedian made her film debut in She-Devil playing Ruth. In 1994 she released a second book title, My Lives. That same year, Barr became the first female comedian to host the MTV Video Music Awards on her own. The stand-up comedian’s third book was published in January 2011. In the summer of 2003, Barr hosted a cooking show called Domestic Goddess. In 2004, the comedian voiced Maggie, one of the main characters in the animated film Home on the Range.

In 2005, Barr returned to stand-up comedy with a world tour. Later on, she declared that she went back to stand-up because this is where she can be herself completely. In February 2006, the stand-up comedian performed her first-ever live European comedy show, part of the Leicester Comedy Festival in England. She released children's DVDs (Rockin' with Roseanne: Calling All Kids), performed comedy specials and at festivals, hosted talent searches, and appeared in a documentary about comedy and in commercials.

The stand-up comedian currently hosts a weekly radio show in Los Angeles and is performing a reality show about her life on a Hawaiian farm. The comedy show will debut later this year(2011).
