Craig Anton is an American actor and comedian, most notable for being one of the original cast of comedians on TV in sketch comedy series MADtv. Anton is also known for his role in Lloyd Diffy in the Phil of the Future Disney Channel Original Series.

Personal Life

Craig Anton was born Craig Ward Anton on 28th August 1962. He was raised in Omaha, Nebraska. Craig is the eldest son one of the four children of Antoinette and Arthur Anton, having a younger brother and two sisters, Toni and Megan.

Stand-up comedian Craig Anton graduated from Omaha Burke High School in 1980. Then he attended University of Nebraska at Kearney, from where he graduated in 1984. As of March 2006, Craig Anton is currently living in Los Angeles, California, with his wife Lesley Anton and two children: Ruby and Delphine.


After graduating the University of Nebraska, Anton began his stand-up comedy career as a college circuit comedian, in the 1980s. In 1984 he travelled the Mediterranean and Middle East as part of an all-comedy USO tour. With this occasion he spent two months in Turkey, Greece, Bahrain, Italy, Israel and Spain where he entertained troops. A year later, in 1985, he was named Showtime’s Funniest Person in Nebraska.

In the late 1980s, stand-up comedian Craig Anton moved to New York in search for some acting opportunities, but his staying there did not last long, as he moved to Los Angeles where he found more open fields in the acting business.

During 1995-1998 Craig Anton held various stand-up comedy sketches at MADtv, in which he played different characters. Aside from his stand-up routines, Anton was often cast as an extra or supporting character. His most enduring character was Clorox, from the Star Trek: Deep Stain Nine sketches. He laso impersonated Dennis Miller and Nate Richert. In 1998, Anton left MADtc, at the end of the third season.

After leaving MADtv, Craig Anton developed an extensive resume on television. He starred and co-starred in several television series, like The Army Show in 1998, Random Play in 1999, or Primetime Glick in 2001. Also, in the late 1990s he starred in Mr. Show with Bob and David in 1995, Expert Truck Singer and Coach in 1996, and during the 2000s he appeared in shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm in 2000, The King of Queens in 2001 and 2005, Ally McBeal and Lizzie McGuire in 2001, Everybody Loves Raymond in 2002 and Weekends at the D.L. in 2005. In 2001, when he appeared in the Late Friday show he performed his stand-up routine.

Craig Anton films credits include such titles as Mail Bonding in 1995, Deliver Us from Eva in 2003, The Goldfish in 2003 and Run Ronnie Run in 2002. In 2005 he played the role of a doctor in D-WAR.

In 2004-2006 Craig Anton appeared in Phil of the Future, playing Lloyd Diffy, a paranoid engineer trying to fix a broken time machine. His main purpose is to find a way so that his family can return to their home in the year 2121 from the year 2004 in which they landed accidentally.

Together with other two comedians: Ron Lynch and Brendon Small, Craig Anton hosted the Tomorrow Show, a weekly live comedy show at the Steve Allen Theater in Los Angeles, California. Although, in the present two of the comedians: Small and Anton are no longer actively involved with the show, they do occasionally appear in surprise performances like yearly anniversaries.

In 2006, Craig Anton starred on ABC’s Boston Legal drama series as Ray Richardson in the episode World Salad Days. In the same year, Anton made a guest appearance in HBO’s television comedy series Entourage, in the episode Strange Days.

In 2007 Anton was in the movie Careless.Craig Anton’s most recent film is The Mother of Invention from 2010, where he played the role of James Gilmore.

In the present stand-up comedian Anton is a member of the comedy group 2 Headed Dog, together with comedians Jim Turner, Mark Fite and Dave Allen. He is also a professor at California State University, Long Beach teaching theatre.

Anton was nominated for the National Association for Campus Activities Campus Entertainer of the Year award three times.
