Cedric Kyles known professionally by his stage name Cedric the Entertainer, is an American actor and stand-up comedian famous in comedy and for his trade mark stylish hats. The stand-up comedian is best known for his crowd-pleasing roles in the recent hit films Barbershop with Ice Cube, Be Cool with John Travolta, Magagascar (animated feature), Intolerable Cruelty with George Clooney, and The Original Kings of Comedy, MTV’S documentary feature directed by Spike Lee.

Personal Life

The stand-up comedian was born Cedric Antonio Kyles on April 24, 1964, in Jefferson City, Missouri. The comic actor is the son of Rosetta, a school teacher, and Kitrell Kyles, an employee of a railroad company. The stand-up comedian was raised in Caruthersville, Missouri but after he graduated from junior high school he moved to Berkeley, Missouri. Cedric is a graduate of Haverhill High School in Haverhill, Massachusetts and of Southeast Missouri State University. The stand-up comedian was named “the most humorous” in his high school graduating class. While attending university, the stand-up comedian was working at State Farm Insurance as a claims adjuster.

The stand-up comedian is married to Lorna Wells (3 September 1999 - present). They have two children, Croix and Lucky Rose, and an older daughter Tiara from a previous relationship.


Cedric’s career as a standup comic got its first major boost when he won the "Johnny Walker National Comedy Contest" in Chicago. This led to regular comedy performances at nightclubs in his hometown of St. Louis, and a victory in another Chicago comedy competition. With a lot of experience in comedy, the stand-up comedian began touring comedy clubs around the United States and made his first TV appearance on It’s Showtime at the Apollo.

In 1993, the stand-up comedian appeared on HBO’s Def Comedy Jam and has been the host of the BET series Comic view for the 1993-1994 season. The stand-up comedian continued to win different comedy competitions: Grand Prize Winners of the Miller Lite Comedy Search along with fellow comedian, Bernie Mac, and Richard Pryor Comic of the Year Award from BET.

In 1996, the stand-up comedian moved into acting, playing Steve Harvey's friend, Cedric Jackie Robinson, on his sitcom, The Steve Harvey Show. Cedric was a hit on the comedy show, and his work on the series earned him the NAACP Image Award as Best Supporting Actor on a Comedy Series three years in a row.

In 1997, the two stand-up comedians, Cedric and Harvey joined forces with funnymen Bernie Mac and D.L. Hughley for a comedy concert tour which was a major success, selling out large venues across the country and grossing 37 million dollars over a two-year run. The comedy tour was later made into a film by Spike Lee called The Original Kings of Comedy (2000). After his success on The Steve Harvey Show and with the Kings of Comedy tour, it was inevitable that Hollywood would come calling, and the stand-up comedian scored his first screen role in 1998 in the comedy Ride.
