Carlos Mencia - Career

Carlos Mencia's stand up comedy career began at The Laugh Factory, a comedy club. Carlos Mecia first did stand up comedy on amateur night and after that, the comedian showcasted at The Comedy Store, where he became a regular. Ned Holness, better known as Carlos Mencia was named from Buscado Estrellas, "International comedy Grand Champion", but only after the comedian became a success in L.A.


TV appearances

After the L.A. circuit success, Carlos Mencia had many appearances in "Living Color", "Moesha","The Arsenio Hall show" or "An Evening at the Improv". In 1994, Carlos Mencia was also the host of the Loco Slam HBO latino comedy series and in 1997 hosted Latino Laugh Festival. One year later, in 1998 Carlos Mencia was chosen to host Funny is Funny on Galavision.

In 2000, was released by Warner Records, Carlos Mencia's comedy album "Take a Joke, America" and he continued to do stand up comedy so well, that in 2001 Carlos Mencia along with Freddy Soto and Pablo Francisco toured as "The Three Amigos", a big success in the stand up comedy world.

In 2002, Carlos Mencia's breakthrough happened along with comedian's performance on Comedy Central Presents. Besides television shows like Moesha or The Shield, Carlos Mencia lend his voice between 2001 and 2005, to Felix in the animated The Proud Family. In 2002, Carlos Mencia won a CableACE Award nomination for Best Stand-Up Comedy Special for his HBO special.

America Rules

In 2002 was released Carlos Mencia's comedy album America Rules, followed by his 2003 Unmerciful. Also in 2004, was released the album Down To The Nitty Gritty, also on DVD and in 2005 had the premier Carlos Mencia big stand up comedy succes , the album "Not for The Easily Offended", which was released on DVD the same year.

In 2004, took place the first talks between Comedy Central and Carlos Mencia about his own show, but things were in stand by until 2005. Only after Dave Chappelle left Dave Chappelle's Show in March 2005, Comedy Central announced Carlos Mencia of his own comedy show Mind of Mencia. Carlos Mencia's comedy show Mind of Mencia was a mix of sketch comedy and stand up comedy, very similar to Chappelle's Show. After a moderate first season, in 2006, Carlos Mencia's  video Mind of Mencia became the second highest rated program on Comedy Central, after South Park. Carlos Mencia's comedy show Mind of Mencia was brought back for a third season the same summer.

No Strings attached

In 2006, was released Carlos Mencia's video on DVD No Strings Attached, a great stand up comedy recorded live in San Francisco and even though Carlos Mencia was voted into 2nd place of Top 25 stand up comics on Comedy Central in 2006, Maxim named Carlos Mencia the 12th-worst comedian of all time.

Sometimes, Carlos Mencia is a a guest on XM Satellite Radio on the Opie and Anthony show and CBS Radio. In 2006, the comedian was part of the first Opie and Anthony 's Traveling Virus Comedy Tour.

Bud Light asociation

In 2007, Mecia took part at a national comedy tour "Carlos Mencia Live Presented by Bud Light " and the comedian starred in a Super Bowl XLI commercial for the same Bud Light, being according to TiVo the #1 most replayed commercial. Also in 2007, in December, Carlos Mencia went to the Persian Gulf to entertain the troops serving over seas, followed by an concert that he hosted - Operation MySpace - in Middle East alongside The Pussycat Dolls and Jessica Simpson and a trip to Kuwait.

In 2008 was filmed Carlos Mencia's video comedy special Carlos Mencia: Performance Enhanced, released on DVD the same year.
