The Richard Pryor Award was inaugarated in 2004 at The Fringe Festival, to be judged by the legendary comedian Richard Pryor and his wife, Jennifer Lee Pryor.
The Richard Pryor Award was suposed to be offered to an " ethnic comedian that demonstrate the same kind of innovation and fearlessness that Pryor became famous for", the spokesman from Revolver Entertainment said.
Known for the Richard Pryor Show or for his stand up comedy shows, as well as for movies like Brewster's Millionaire, the great comedian that was called the father of the modern comedy chose in 2004 as a winner for this prize, the Egyptian US comic Ahmed Ahmed.
But in 2005, Revolver Entertainment cancelled the award, blaiming the lack of sponsorship.Revolver said it hoped to reinstate the Richard Pryor award next year.
